Modern technologies in sport
Contemporary sport, beside the physical preparation and development of the participants, also requires careful organisation and efficient communication – particularly important during training. Efficient exchange of information between the student and the trainer as well as effective coordination of activities are key components of future success. Hence, tour guide systems, originally created with tourism and sightseeing in mind, have found their way into sport as well. Our offer includes systems that allow wireless communication during horseback riding, and not just on the paddock, during cycling, on the slopes or even in the pool – including underwater! We also offer models designed especially for football, volleyball or basketball referees. The next part of the article includes a discussion of the advantages that modern technologies offer to referees, trainers as well as players and students.
Wireless communication for riders
In terms of horseback riding, the tour guide system is very useful during the learning process. Our latest model, the Okayo C200, was designed with horseback riders in mind; it is equipped with a clip for your belt or vest and allows wireless communication over distances exceeding 100 meters in the line of sight. Thanks to this, the trainer can provide the riders with real-time comments, even if they are very far, e. g. during paddock or open-terrain training. This form of communication is comfortable and useful, because any pupil receiving hints concerning their body position, commanding the horse or obstacle handling techniques may apply them without needing to interrupt their ride. Not only does this solution improve training efficiency, but it also improves safety, allowing one to react quickly in situations that require immediate action. We also offer a more advanced, bidirectional set – the EQS-3 – based on a model by Axiwi, which enables hands-free communication. It must additionally be stressed that tour guide systems are also useful for those who also practice the sport recreationally, not only professionals.
Tour guide systems in recreational and professional cycling
Cycling is quite popular and enjoys broad attention. It can be practised both professionally as well as recreationally. Do you organise cycling tours but have trouble coordinating the group? Or perhaps you just cycle with a circle of friends, but difficulties in cycling speed hinder free conversation? A tour guide system will help you resolve these problems and enjoy cycling again. If you decide to purchase a bidirectional mGuide model like the GST G2 or G3, which beside long range is also characterised by a powerful battery (up to eight hours of operation), you will be able to easily convey information about any changes to the route, obstacles or planned breaks, without the need to dismount your bikes. Cycling will become much more comfortable, and the participants will be able to fully focus on enjoying the outdoor activity. In addition, the model we indicate here is easy to use, making it the perfect choice for families with children. The robust housing ensures equipment durability even during intense, professional tours in mountainous terrain. A properly selected wireless communication system will prove itself even in harsh conditions…
Wireless communication in winter sports
Tour guide systems are an invaluable tool supporting training in and organisation of winter sports competitions such as skiing and snowboarding. They allow not only the
provision of individual remarks during training, but also:
- facilitate the coordination of judges and referees on different parts of the route,
- allow the transmission of results from check points to the target positions,
- allow for quick reactions and an exchange of information in emergencies (e. g. sudden closure of a part of the track, the need to provide medical attention).
When selecting your system that will serve to efficiently support you, you should take into consideration that the conditions can be demanding (vast spaces, wind noise, large concentrations of people on the slope) and decide on a model that will be able to handle
them. The unit we already mentioned, the mGuide GST G2, offers not only a long range (up to 2 km in the open), but also, together with the proper head set (e. g. the GST-HLT) it will handle unwanted ambient interference very well. Coupled with the comfortable arm band, this model is the perfect solution for winter sports enthusiasts. Noteworthy is also the fact that the specifics of other sporting activities may require other solutions. For these, we offer dedicated systems that will handle these needs well.
Tour guide equipment for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts
Thanks to the dynamic development of technology, wireless communications systems have already found their use in swimming pools and other water sports venues. The mGuide AQUA, the first fully watertight radio system by our own brand, mGuide, was created especially with efficient swimming exercises and as an aid in water sport training in general (e. g. swimming, triathlon, aqua aerobics, basics of wind surfing). With user comfort in mind, the receiver takes the form of a light headphone set (39 g) that use bone conduction. This model offers exceptionally high sound quality both above as well as below the water. The transmitter and the receiver are almost hands-free, making the mGuide AQUA the perfect solution even for th youngest water sports enthusiasts.
